Scary good. Without the scary ingredients.
Halloween may be full of frightful fun, but the real scare? What’s lurking in most store-bought candy. From artificial preservatives to sneaky seed oils and hard-to-pronounce additives, it’s enough to make any mama want to take matters into her own mixing bowl.
That’s why we’re making our own homemade chocolate peanut butter cups. They’re rich, simple, and made with just a few real ingredients you likely already have in your pantry. No mystery fillers, no spooky chemicals. Just wholesome, chocolatey goodness you can feel good about handing out (or hoarding for yourself 😉). Because when it comes to our kids and their treats, homemade isn’t just better, it’s braver.

Homemade Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups
Proof that treats don’t need tricks.
Ingredients
To make homemade peanut butter cups, you will only need a few simple ingredients that you might already have in your pantry.
Filling:
- 1 cup creamy peanut butter
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 4 tablespoons light brown sugar packed
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- Pinch of salt
Chocolate Coating:
- 12 ounce bag of cups semi-sweet chocolate melting wafers or chocolate chips
- 2 teaspoons coconut oil
Instructions
1. Line a 12 muffin pan with cupcake liners. Set aside.
2. Melt the chocolate. In a small pot, melt the chocolate and coconut coconut oil over low heat, stirring constantly. The chocolate should be smooth and shiny when fully melted.

3. Assemble the peanut butter cups. Spoon about ½ tablespoon of melted chocolate into each cupcake liner. Using a pastry brush, coat the sides of the cupcake liners one-third of the way up. Shake the pan back and forth to help spread the chocolate.

4. Freeze for 15 minutes.
5. Prepare the filling. While the chocolate is freezing, prepare the peanut butter filling. Combine the peanut butter, butter, brown sugar, powdered sugar, and salt into a medium pot over low heat, and stir constantly. Stir until the mixture is creamy.

6. Freeze for 15 minutes.
7. Put 1 tablespoon of the peanut butter filling on top of the frozen chocolate muffin pan layer, making sure the filling does not touch the sides of the cupcake liner.

8. Cover the peanut butter layer with the melted chocolate.

9. Freeze for 10 to 15 minutes or refrigerate for 15 to 20 minutes until hardened. Sprinkle with some Maldon Sea Salt to finish!
10. Store homemade peanut butter cups in an airtight container in the fridge. For longer storage, you can also freeze them; just layer them between parchment paper to prevent sticking.

Why Homemade is Better
By making your own peanut butter cups, you have control over the quality of ingredients that go into them. You can choose natural peanut butter without added sugars or oils, high-quality dark chocolate with no artificial flavors, and even ditch the sugar and substitute pure maple syrup instead. This way, you can indulge in a delicious Halloween treat without worrying about harmful additives and preservatives.
So, why not treat yourself and your loved ones to homemade peanut butter cups made with love and wholesome ingredients? Not only will you satisfy your sweet tooth, but you’ll also feel good knowing that you’re indulging in a healthier version of a classic treat. Happy Halloween! 🎃🥜🍫
